Ordering and Pricing

The prices listed in the catalogue and quoted at the time of ordering do not include cases which can be ordered separately. We generally recommend Kingham MTM cases due to their high quality, however we can also provide cases by Shuster for average sized renaissance lutes.

A place on our waiting list may be secured with either a £350 or a 15% deposit (whichever is greater) based on the guide price quoted at the time of ordering. The initial deposit is strictly non-refundable although we do offer a 30 day cooling off period during which you may cancel the order without losing the deposit. The remainder is to be paid upon completion of the instrument and before final delivery. We do not charge VAT.

The price quoted at the time of ordering is based on our price list at that time.

Although the deposit is non-refundable it may be deferred. In the case of a deferment the customer will be given a new place in the waiting list, however this place cannot be guaranteed.

Modifications to or finalisations of the order are subject to our agreement, must be decided in writing, and may naturally impact time estimates and the final cost of the instrument.

We make every effort to fulfil the time estimates for completion, however given the nature of the work this estimate is not binding.

We reserve the right to cancel an order at any time and for any reason.

In the event that the order is paid for in full before completion (with our agreement) and there is a subsequent cancellation of the order before completion, we will offer a partial refund reserving the right to retain the equivalent of what would have been the deposit had the order been placed in the usual way.

Delivery

Customers are strongly advised to collect the instrument in person, however delivery can be arranged at extra cost. The cost of postage, packaging and insurance must be paid for by the customer and an initial ballpark estimate for these costs can be given at the point of ordering. The estimate of postage costs is however non-binding and likely subject to change given that courier costs and availability are outside of our control and change regularly.

The ordered instrument remains our property until it is paid for in full. Should the instrument not be paid for in full within six weeks after you have been notified of its completion we reserve the right to offer it for sale.

Overseas buyers should be particularly aware of potential extra costs that may be incurred due to taxes, customs duties etc. that may be applied by the relevant local authorities upon importation. We cannot be held responsible for the application of such charges as they are outside of our control. If import charges are of concern to you we strongly suggest that you research this before ordering.

Where sending instruments to the US is concerned we are familiar with the Lacey Act importation requirements and have experience with filling out the relevant forms. The woods that we use are Lacey Act compliant.

Payment

Our preferred payment method is electronic bank to bank transfer, however we also accept international money transfer, cash, cheque and banker's draft. All payments are to be made in pound sterling and all bank charges, transaction charges and currency conversion charges are payable by the customer.

Guarantee

All of our new instruments come with a 12 month guarantee. Under this guarantee we promise to undertake any repair work free of charge on faults or defects the cause of which can be reasonably attributed to us whether that be in the materials used or our workmanship. This guarantee covers a period of 12 months from the original point of sale provided that you have taken proper care of the instrument and have tuned it in the manner in which we have recommended. This warranty is void however if the instrument has been treated inappropriately and without due care or has been modified in any way e.g. exposure to excessive humidity or dryness, over-tensioning, accidental damage etc. If you wish to re-string the instrument at a different pitch or with gauges other than those we have recommended then you must seek our prior approval first otherwise the guarantee is void. The guarantee does not cover accidental damage or damage that is the fault of the customer or anyone else other than ourselves.

Although we will perform repairs free of charge under the guarantee it is the customer's responsibility to arrange and pay for the cost of transportation to and from our workshop. We can of course offer help and advice in this regard.
